About Matt Grace
I’m a native of eastern North Carolina, now living in Greenville along with my wife Kelly, my two daughters Adriane and Marissa and our Shih Tzu/Lasa mix, Hank.
Elm Street Park in Greenville, NC is where I played little league baseball and Rose High School is where I played for a state championship baseball team. Staying in the area, I attended both East Carolina University (Go Pirates) and Pitt Community College. I’m proud to call eastern North Carolina my home.
Hanging on the office wall is my framed NC contractor’s license #66837. This license, my experience leading Grace Construction, Inc. and my six years of experience as the superintendent for a premier custom home builder in Pitt County prepared me well to serve you, my customers. In business since 2007, I have expertise in building new custom and speculation homes, remodeling and renovations.
My business began in earnest out of pure necessity. I was lucky enough to work for one of the premier custom home builders in the area. After six years in that role my employer, mentor and friend had no alternative but to lay me off in 2011 following the mortgage lending fiasco and resulting financial crisis. I recall the time well since my oldest daughter was born that same year. The steep downturn in the housing market severely impacted all builders in the area and I was lucky to remain employed as long as I did. I recall being on unemployment for a short period of time – I was determined to get out of that situation quickly and I did. It was by taking any type of work available from caulking windows on brick homes, to pressure washing decks to building fences that I learned the value of hard work, high quality and integrity in business. I learned some of the skilled trades and began to perform sub contracted ceramic tile and hard surface installation and insurance restoration/renovation. Eventually the market improved to the point I was able to begin doing what I loved again – Building Homes. I have many people to thank who helped me along the way and I truly appreciate their support and guidance.
One thing I do understand is that this business is about relationships and People. It’s one interaction at a time – Person to Person – and that is how I operate. Also, that’s my expectation of any sub contractor who works on our projects from start to finish.
I am a past president of the Greenville-Pitt County Home Builders Association (GPCHBA) and was on the board of directors for 2019. In 2017, I was was selected by my peers as Builder Member of the Year and I received their Outstanding Service award for 2018. I was also chosen as the 2018 Outstanding Alumni at Pitt Community College representing the Construction Technology program.
I’ve managed the construction of new homes ranging in size from 1,700 square feet to 5,000 square feet. Check out the next page to find out more about Grace Construction, Inc.
